The performance features a new work choreographed by Dance Dean Silas Farley and set to Nokuthula Ngwenyama’s Sonoran Storm for solo viola; excerpts from Jerome Robbins’ Dances at a Gathering performed to solo Chopin piano works; and a new pas de deux choreographed by Ally Helman to a high-energy brass work by Gabrieli.

This program underlines today’s plurality of taste and access, juxtaposing Ryan’s original compositions with electronics, unaccompanied solo Bach, and even a cover of Daft Punk.

Schuller’s haunting, dramatic Phantasmata for violin and marimba; Harrison’s Concerto for violin and gamelan-inspired percussion ensemble; and Bartók’s tour de force, Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion, are performed in the intimate environment of Olive Rehearsal Hall.
