The LA community is invited to explore, be curious, pop in, and choose their own adventures at more than 10 participating cultural institutions. Experience music and performance at Colburn, then visit our friends on Grand Avenue. All events are free and open to the public, rain or shine.
PROGRAM INFORMATION
Colburn’s activities include:
11 am–4 pm: Instrument Petting Zoo
Try an instrument of your choice and get expert advice on getting started in music.
11–11.30 am: Open Sing
Take your singing skills to the next level: Colburn’s choir director Adrian Dunn leads an open sing workshop for vocalists of all ages.
11:30 am–12 pm: Creative Dance Open Class, Ages 4-8 Young dancers are invited to discover the joy of dance with open Creative Dance classes.
12–12:15 pm: Conservatory Brass Performance Talented Brass students from Colburn’s Conservatory of Music perform from the Grand Avenue Balcony.
12:15–12:35 pm: Deb Devine Theater Workshop, Ages 5–7
Children can explore theatre improvisation with award-winning theatre director Debbie Devine.
12:15–12:45 pm: Conduct Us Try your hand at conducting an ensemble! Mert Yalniz, Salonen Conducting Fellow, will lead you through the steps. Open to all ages and no experience necessary.
12:40–1 pm: Deb Devine Theater Workshop (Ages 8–12)
Children can explore theatre improvisation with award-winning theatre director Debbie Devine.
1–1:30 pm: Pre-Ballet Open Class (Ages 4–5) Young dancers are invited to discover the joy of ballet with an open Pre-Ballet class.
1:30–1:45 pm: Modern Dance Performance Experience the creativity and expressivity of Modern Dance as Colburn’s talented Modern students perform on the Plaza.
2–2:15 pm: Tap Performance
Get your daily dose of the rhythm and joy of tap as Colburn’s talented student tappers perform on the Plaza.
2:15–2:30 pm: Community School Chamber Music Performance
Enjoy a performance from a string quartet and piano trio from the Community School of Performing Arts on the Plaza.
2:30–2:45 pm: Musical Theatre Performance
Colburn’s Musical Theatre students bring Broadway to the Colburn Plaza with a performance featuring songs from Elegies for Angels, Punks, and Queens; Chess; and Bring it On.
2:45–3 pm: Colburn Concert Choir
Colburn’s most advanced choral ensemble takes over Thayer Hall for a vibrant performance!
3:30–3:45 pm: Du/Chyu Duo Experience the artistry of students from Colburn’s Music Academy with a performance from a violin duo
3:45–4 pm: Elysian Quartet
Talented musicians from the Music Academy’s Elysian Quartet perform on the Colburn Plaza.
Music Academy students show off their talents in this intimate recital series featuring a delightful mix of repertoire. This performance will be livestreamed.
Witness the extraordinary artistry of Marc-André Hamelin, hailed worldwide for his dazzling virtuosity and profound musical insight. Joining Music Director Jaime Martín, Hamelin brings both power and poetry to Brahms’s monumental Piano Concerto No. 1, a work of tempestuous beauty and Romantic depth. The program continues with Louise Farrenc’s radiant Symphony No. 2, a graceful and spirited work that deserves the spotlight.
