In this first-look musical presentation of OCEAN CHILD: I AM YOKO, the audience becomes Yoko Ono, a cultural icon who defies expectations and surface-level categorizations. Take a deep dive into Ono’s life, from her childhood and travels across continents to her relationships and artistic evolution. Written, designed, and directed by musician Yuka Honda and artist Glenn Kaino—both of whom also perform alongside an ensemble of renowned musicians and vocalists—OCEAN CHILD: I AM YOKO is a work-in-progress experiment which encourages us to embody Ono’s complexity, not just observe it. Presented in conjunction with the special exhibition, Yoko Ono: Music of the Mind.

The Colburn Chamber Players season begins with a program of invention, turbulence, childhood wonder, and passionate lyricism. Britten's Phantasy Quartet opens with the striking inventiveness that announced a major new voice to the world. Martinů’s Piano Quartet No. 1 combines driving musical drama with Bohemian folk melodies. Katherine Balch's musica spolia conjures the mischief of childhood. Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 2 closes with passionate, love-infused lyricism that lingers long after the final note.

The Colburn Orchestra season kicks off with a boisterous afternoon of storytelling and surprising soundscapes. Opening the concert is the irresistibly rhythmic Danzón No. 2 by Mexican composer Arturo Márquez. Next, the woody and melodic tones of the marimba take centerstage in Kevin Puts’s Mozart-inspired concerto. Finally, a comic tale of romance, trickery, and comeuppance is brought to life in Manuel de Falla’s rambunctious Three-Cornered Hat.

Designed for children ages 13 and under but open to all, the Opening Notes concerts spark imagination and make learning about music feel easy and exciting. Led by Conservatory students, this lively 40-minute performance combines music, storytelling, and theatrical adventure as performers bring characters and an engaging story to life onstage. These performances feature lighting effects and sudden noises. A sensory-friendly breakout space will be available for children who wish to step away from the performance as needed. REICH90 is the North American tour of the STEVE REICH PROJECT, conceived and produced by internationally acclaimed percussionist Kuniko Kato(JP) in celebration of Steve Reich's 90th birthday. Long trusted by Reich himself, Kato has devoted more than three decades to performing and championing his music. Bringing together Japan's most emerging young percussionists, the project reflects her enduring commitment to nurturing the next generation of artists while pursuing the highest standards of musical excellence. Following an enthusiastic response and sold-out performances across Japan, REICH90 now brings this vibrant celebration of Reich's legacy to audiences in North America.

Talented ensembles and soloists from the Conservatory of Music present programs of beloved classical works.  

An immersive program centered on the human voice, Mayrig (“mother” in Armenian) pulses with passion and celebration, resilience and rage. Created by Karen Ouzounian and Lembit Beecher, Mayrig weaves recordings of Ouzounian’s mother and grandmother with Armenian melodies from their ancestral Anatolia; songs and stories drawn from their post-genocide Lebanese home; and the beloved music of French and Armenian singer-songwriter Charles Aznavour.

The Modigliani Quartet, hailed by BBC Music Magazine as "one of the greatest string quartets of the last 100 years," brings its precision and warmth to the Colburn stage. They will be joined by Pianist Fabio Bidini, Carol Colburn Grigor Piano Chair, for a vibrant finale.

Renowned Classical specialist Dame Jane Glover leads this time-traveling exploration of Classical-era music. First, Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin blends 18th-century melodies with 20th-century rhythms in a woodwind-rich tribute to those lost in World War I. A late-Classical bassoon concertino by Bernhard Crusell then showcases the instrument’s warm sound and impressive versatility. Mozart’s unapologetically Classical Symphony No. 38 closes the concert with a dramatic flourish.

Music Restored: The Ziering-Conlon Center for Exiled and Suppressed Composers at Colburn welcomes artists from the Exilarte Center in Vienna for a joint chamber music performance that reclaims voices nearly erased by history. This artistic collaboration honors composers silenced as “degenerate” under the Third Reich, bringing their string quartet music to life with urgency and care.
