Student Biographies 

Yanyan Bao, Piano  

Chinese pianist Yanyan Bao displayed artistic sensitivity from her earliest years and began piano lessons at the age of four. Her early musical precocity led her to begin more disciplined studies at the age of seven with pianist Jay Pengjie Sun, Piano Department chair at Xinghai Conservatory Middle School in Guangzhou. After being admitted into the Xinghai Conservatory Middle School with outstanding ranking, Ms. Bao continued her piano study with Dr. Vivian Li, professor of Piano at Xinghai Conservatory. Ms. Bao has also selectively taken part in music competitions including third prize at the Zhuhai Mozart Youth International Piano Competition; first prize at the Shenzhen Lang Lang Futian International Piano Competition; Young Talent Award at the Ettlingen International Piano Competition; second prize and Best Chinese Work at the Beijing Chopin International Competition; and first prize and Best Schubert Prize at the Aspire Category of 2021 E-Piano Junior Competition. She has been fortunate to have taken master classes with celebrated pianists such as Gary Graffman, Arie Vardi, Lev Natochenny, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Stanislav Ioudenitch, Dmitri Alexeev, Li Qi, and Wu Ying, among others. Ms. Bao is currently a Bachelor of Music student at the Colburn Conservatory of Music, studying with Fabio Bidini, Carol Colburn Grigor Piano Chair.


Andrea Caputo, Clarinet  

Italian clarinetist and graduate of the Mozarteum University Salzburg and the Paris Conservatory, Andrea Caputo has worked with the best orchestras in Europe—Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Verbier Festival Orchestra—under the baton of the most sought-after conductors including Riccardo Muti, Valery Gergiev, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Klaus Mäkelä, Daniele Gatti, Iván Fischer, Gianandrea Noseda, Fabio Luisi, Manfred Honeck, Zubin Mehta, and Lahav Shani. A photography enthusiast, Mr. Caputo likes to travel and discover new cultures around the world with his clarinets. Mr. Caputo is an Artist Diploma candidate at the Colburn Conservatory of Music where he studies with Yehuda Gilad.


Angela Chan, Violin  

Praised for her sensitivity and incredible tone, Hong Kong-born violinist Angela Chan has found success both as a soloist and chamber musician. She is the winner of 2024 Hannover Joseph Joachim Violin Competition and recipient of the prize for the best interpretation of commissioned work; first prize and winner of the best interpretation of concerto prize in the 2017 Louis Spohr Violin Competition; and laureate of the Singapore International Violin Competition and Shanghai Isaac Stern International Competition. As a soloist, Ms. Chan has appeared with numerous orchestras including NDR Radiophilharmonie, the Staatskapelle Weimar Orchestra of Germany, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, China Philharmonic Orchestra, EOS Orchestra of Beijing, and the Hong Kong Symphonia. In 2016, Ms. Chan was selected as a soloist to tour around the United States with the Curtis Chamber Orchestra. Ms. Chan has held many recitals in various locations such as Boston, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Rhode Island, Hong Kong, Beijing, Xiamen, and Guizhou. She is currently an Artist-in-residence at the Queen Elizabeth Music Chapel in Belgium. 


Adèle Ginestet, Viola  

Adèle Ginestet is a French violist. She discovered the viola at the age of nine and her training continued apace, securing her a place at the Toulouse Conservatoire in Louis Merlet’s class at the age of 15. In 2016, she joined the Conservatoire de Paris. In 2020–21 she refined her skills with Roland Glassl at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, and in 2021, she joined the class of Tatjana Masurenko and Ronen Shifron at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne as a master soloist. In June 2023, she made her solo debut with the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra in Martinů’s Rhapsody-Concerto, conducted by Nicolas Chalvin. An orchestra enthusiast, she was selected to take part in the 2019 and 2020 seasons of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, conducted by Herbert Blomstedt and Jonathan Nott. She has performed in renowned venues such as the Konzerthaus and Musikverein in Vienna, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In France, Ms. Ginestet is regularly invited to play with major orchestras such as Opéra National de Paris and Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. Ms. Ginestet was sponsored by ADAMI in 2021 and has been supported by the Fondation Safran pour la Musique since July 2022. She is currently an Artist-in-residence at the Queen Elizabeth Music Chapel in Belgium.


Bogang Hwang, Piano  

Pianist Bogang Hwang, born in South Korea, began playing piano at the age of six. She graduated from the Sunhwa Arts High School, where she had won the Excellence Performance Award for three consecutive years. Also, she was a recipient of the Sunhwa Piano Society Scholarship. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Seoul National University under the tutelage of Ick-choo Moon. Highlights from recent and upcoming performances include the Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Colburn Orchestra under conductor Lionel Bringuier at the Walt Disney Concert Hall; Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 with the Pasadena Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Nicholas McGegan; and chamber music performances at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. As an active chamber musician, Ms. Hwang is one of the founding members of the Sonarsix Sextet, which was formed at the Colburn School and winner of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. Additionally, she is a member of the Kontrapunktus Baroque Ensemble, playing harpsichord. She is currently pursuing her Master of Music degree with Fabio Bidini at the Colburn Conservatory of Music, where she earned an Artist Diploma.


Duncan McDougall, Violin  

Duncan McDougall is a Canadian violinist pursuing his Artist Diploma at the Colburn Conservatory of Music, studying with Martin Beaver. Mr. McDougall has appeared as a soloist with the Colburn Orchestra, National Arts Centre Orchestra, Toronto Symphony, and Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, among others. He was chosen by CBC Music as one of Canada’s top 30 classical musicians under the age of 30, was a grand prize winner of the Canadian Music Competition, and received the National Gold Medal for Violin Performance and Violin Pedagogy from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Mr. McDougall plays on a 1900 Scarampella violin on generous loan from the Colburn Collection. Outside of his musical life, he enjoys trail running, hiking, canoeing, skiing, and baking.


Jason Moon, Violin  

Violinist Jason Moon is a rapidly emerging artist who finds inspiration in everything from Fritz Kreisler to Queen to pour-over coffee. He is currently pursuing his Artist Diploma at the Colburn Conservatory of Music as a student of Martin Beaver, with whom he also completed his Master of Music degree. He previously earned his Bachelor of Music at the Juilliard School under the tutelage of Li Lin. Mr. Moon has won numerous competitions including the Hellam Young Artists’ Competition, Hennings-Fischer Young Artist Competition, and Colburn Conservatory Concerto Competition. A proud recipient of the 2024 Frances Rosen Violin Prize from the Colburn School, he has performed with the San Francisco Symphony and Colburn Orchestra, among others. An avid chamber musician, Mr. Moon frequently performs for the Colburn Music Restored initiative and spends his summers at chamber music festivals including Kronberg Academy’s Chamber Music Connects the World, Music@Menlo, and Olympic Chamber Music Festival.
