New for 2024–25! Our Hip Hop technique courses for students aged 7 to 18 explore the core elements of Hip Hop dance practice. Hip Hop can be taken as a single course or as an elective for students registered in ballet, modern, and dance classes. Courses require a year-long commitment. Ages are approximate guidelines.
This technique course explores the core elements of Hip Hop dance practice. Students will learn the internalization of the groove and how it’s integrated within Hip Hop dance vocabulary from old school party dances to social media trends.
This technique course explores the core elements of Hip Hop dance practice. Students will learn the internalization of the groove through bounces, rocks, waves and rolls, and how they’re integrated within Hip Hop dance vocabulary – from old school party dances to social media trends.
Before progressing towards choreography, students will gain an understanding for Hip Hop dance anatomically, rhythmically, historically and culturally. Through this, students will increase their ability to freestyle and develop their own individual voice, thus giving them foundational access to the Hip Hop community at large.
Prerequisite: Must be proficient in foundational grooves, as well as familiarity in Hip Hop Dance vocabulary.
