Graduate Chamber Ensemble-in-Residence

The Chamber Ensemble will receive extensive group coaching by Colburn Faculty, led by Chamber Music and Viola Faculty Jonathan Brown, as well as individual lessons in support of ensemble playing.

In addition to extensive performance opportunities on and off campus, the ensemble will have the opportunity to play for and participate in master classes with the many guest artists who come to Colburn each year, as well as opportunities to play with Faculty.

The Ensemble-in-Residence will perform a minimum of one recital per semester at the school and will be an ambassador for Colburn in the local community as well as mentors for younger ensembles at the Colburn School. Ensemble members will also be rotated into Conservatory orchestra cycles as part of the curriculum and may audition for principal roles. Additional curricular requirements include classes on wellness and career development.

The Ensemble-in-Residence is expected to be on the cusp of a professional career and as such will be part of Colburn Artists list, a unique in-house management program. Additional privileges offered to the ensemble include:

    • A debut CD recording with the Delos label
    • A commissioning budget for a new work to be performed on their final recital
    • A travel budget which will support attendance at international competitions and chamber music courses
    • Two years tuition free, room and board covered

Interested ensembles can contact Admissions or Jonathan Brown for pre-screening repertoire requirements, additional application details, or questions. Groups will submit ensemble recordings for prescreening; the live audition will include an ensemble audition and abbreviated solo auditions for each ensemble member.
