Joachim Becerra Thomsen, flute, will perform on Saturday night’s Colburn Orchestra concert.
Join flute player Joachim Becerra Thomsen before the show on Saturday, March 3 for a discussion about the night’s program. The talk will begin at 6:45 in the downstairs lobby of Ambassador Auditorium, and will be led by Music History Chair Kristi Brown.
They will be discussing the Nielsen Flute Concerto, a work to which Joachim can trace a strong lineage as a Danish musician. The piece was written for the mentor of his former teacher, and he’ll share his particular understanding of the concerto and his path as a flutist.
Joachim is currently principal flute of Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, a post to which he was appointed at age 21, making him the youngest-ever principal in the group. Before coming to Colburn to pursue his Professional Studies Certificate in 2016, he performed throughout his native Denmark with orchestras and chamber groups. He graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, where he earned undergraduate and graduate degrees.
Chair of the music-history faculty at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, Kristi Brown-Montesano received her Ph.D. in musicology from UC Berkeley, combining her strong interest in both musical performance and scholarly research.
If you haven’t already, get your tickets to the concert, which begins at 7:30 pm and includes Beethoven’s “Eroica” and the Nielson Flute Concerto.
