Housing Policy for the Music and Dance Academies at the Colburn School

The Colburn School is committed to providing a supportive and enriching environment for all Music and Dance Academy students. Due to the unique needs of our diverse student body, the well-being of our students, and the limited availability of on-campus housing, we have established the following housing policy:

Dormitory Housing

  1. Eligibility:
    • Dormitory housing is available only to Music and Dance Academy students aged 15 and older.
    • Students aged 14 and younger are not permitted to reside in the dormitories under any circumstances.
  2. Space Limitations:
    • Dormitory space is extremely limited and cannot be guaranteed to any student. Admission into the Music and Dance Academy is not conditional to having a place in the dormitory.
    • Housing assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis, and priority may be given to students based on factors such as distance from campus or other individual needs.
    • If a student aged 15 and up is not selected to reside in the dorms, they will be placed on a waiting list and will need to secure off-campus housing with a parent or legal guardian (Aunt/Uncle, etc.), regardless of their age.

Students Aged 14 and Younger

  1. Parental Accompaniment:
    • Students aged 14 and younger who choose to attend the Music or Dance Academy must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who will be responsible for securing off-campus housing and providing appropriate supervision.
  2. Housing Responsibilities:
    • The Colburn School does not provide assistance in securing off-campus housing.

Alternative Housing

  1. Approval Requirement:
    • Music Academy ONLY: If a student is unable to secure dormitory housing and elects to attend the Music Academy, the student’s proposed housing arrangement must be approved by the Colburn School by July 1st of each year.
    • All students living off campus must have a parent or legal guardian with them in their chosen place of off-campus residence.
  2. Criteria for Approval:
      • The proposed housing arrangement must ensure the student’s safety, well-being, and proximity to the school’s campus.
      • Students must provide detailed information about their housing plan, including the location, supervision, and contact information for any adults involved.

General Provisions

  1. Responsibility for Housing:
    • Students and their families are ultimately responsible for arranging their housing, whether on-campus or off-campus.
  2. Compliance with Policies:
    • All students residing in the dormitories or attending the Music or Dance Academy must comply with the Colburn School’s rules and policies regarding housing and conduct.
  3. Communication with the School:
      • Families are encouraged to communicate with the Colburn School’s administration regarding any housing concerns or questions well in advance of the enrollment period.

This policy is designed to ensure the safety, well-being, and success of all Music and Dance Academy students while maintaining the integrity of the Colburn School’s residential program.
