Your Support in Action

At Colburn, creative forces converge to shape the future of the next generation of artists. Gifts from individuals, institutional partners, our trustees, as well as the ongoing support from legacy gifts to the Colburn School endowment allow Colburn to educate and inspire students all around the world.

This Past Year:

  • Thanks to the vision of Richard D. Colburn, along with generous support from our donor community, we continue to offer complete scholarships to all our Colburn Conservatory students. Each Conservatory student receives full tuition, room, and board valued at over $62,000 per student annually.
  • We gained our very first named Conservatory scholarship, The Louise Garland Scholarship Fund, which is awarded to one dedicated Conservatory student each year.
  • $883,965 in total scholarship support was awarded to Community School students in all genres.
  • During the fall semester, the Colburn School’s Jumpstart Young Musicians program served 153 students, ages Pre-K – 12th grade.
  • We unveiled architectural designs by Frank Gehry for a new 100,000 square-foot campus expansion project in downtown Los Angeles that aims, to inspire and serve the region’s young performing artists and performing arts organizations and ensembles. For more information, click here.
  • Colburn hosted the Sphinx Virtuosi, an ensemble comprised of the nation’s top Black and Latinx classical soloists, including alumni of the Sphinx Competition. It featured a three-day residency, including performances, master classes, and community engagement activities.
  • Over the summer, Colburn hosted two cohorts of the Sphinx LEAD (Leaders in Excellence, Arts & Diversity) program. This is a two-year leadership program designed to evolve the industry landscape by empowering the next generation of arts leaders.
  • The Max H. Gluck Foundation partnered with Colburn to support ongoing Access to Excellence in the performing arts and training the next generation of great teachers. With their partnership, Colburn hosted Summer Encounter and Jumpstart which are immersive music and dance programs designed to serve low-income students from our Title 1 partner schools. These programs encompass a wide range of musical and artistic styles, practices, and performance experiences.
  • 61 Colburn Conservatory of Music students, also known as our Gluck Teaching Fellows, developed their teaching skills and learned to become community-based leaders by providing one-on-one instrument training to the Jumpstart music students.

Through your generosity, our students have gone on to pursue their dreams at other world-renowned educational institutions and professional companies and orchestras.
