The Colburn Music Academy provides pre-college training  for exceptional, young  Classical Musicians like you, who want to dedicate themselves to the art form.. We help you reach your full artistic potential and give you a musical foundation that is essential to a thriving career in music.

Our comprehensive curriculum includes private instruction with top faculty, studio classes and chamber music, music theory and history, and ear training, as well as enrichment studies in career development and personal presentation skills. Students perform regularly, both on campus and throughout Los Angeles, and participate in master classes. Alumni have gone on to study at top music schools, including Juilliard, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the Colburn Conservatory of Music.

A dedicated educator, Ms. Coletti teaches viola at Colburn’s Community School of Performing Arts and Music Academy.

Margaret Batjer
Margaret Batjer
Director, Music Academy; Violin Faculty, Music Academy and Conservatory; Academy Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra

Margaret Batjer is Director of Colburn’s Music Academy, a program dedicated to training exceptional pre-college classical musicians from around the world for careers in music. Concertmaster of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and a renowned violin soloist, chamber musician, and teacher, Batjer shapes the artistic vision for the Music Academy and will lead the development of the program through its second decade. 

Jonathan William Brown
Chamber Music and Viola Faculty

As violist of the Cuarteto Casals, Jonathan William Brown performed in all of the major concert halls in Europe, North America, and Asia and made numerous recordings on the Harmonia Mundi label. As a guest violist, Jonathan has performed with the Tokyo, Jerusalem, Kuss, Marmen, Miro, Zemlinsky, Quiroga, and Armida quartets.
