The Endowment Circle honors philanthropists who make an investment in the future of the performing arts. In making a gift to Colburn’s endowment, you ensure that the School is able to deliver on its mission of providing excellent arts education to dedicated young artists in perpetuity. Endowment donors demonstrate their alignment with Colburn philosophically and their trust in the School by making transformational gifts. Such a gift can endow a program or project; a faculty or staff position; a rehearsal hall, practice studio, classroom, or other physical space on the Colburn campus.
Benefits of membership in the Endowment Circle include invitations to events designed especially for you, where you will meet like-minded donors, socialize with peers, meet students and faculty, as well as hear about the difference you are making in the lives of Colburn students; personalized invitations to concerts, recitals, and other events; personalized concierge services for performance tickets and other campus experiences; acknowledgement in select Colburn published materials; and benefits of Colburn’s annual giving program, the Colburn Society.

Inspiration is at the core of what we do. We see students receiving encouragement from their faculty, teachers staying motivated by a student’s response, parents showing exuberance over a child’s progress—we have seen it all, week after week. However, something special that we get to see every once in a while, is when a donor feels inspired by all of the above. Below, we share a few highlights and stories from our endowment program, and hope that you’ll see the importance of dedicated funding for these deserving programs and students at the Colburn School.
The Access Fund is an endowment for scholarships offered to students of the Community School of Performing Arts. We surpassed an initial goal of $10 million from over 250 donors in December 2019, but there is still more need than funding. Your gift helps children gain scholarships to study music regardless of financial need. More deserving families than ever are asking for need-based scholarship support to attend the Community School. We want to meet every request now and ensure a stable base of support scholarships in the future.

The Amron-Sutherland Endowment for Young Pianists Fund was initially established in 2009 with assets from the estate of Bruce Sutherland, and following the death of his sister Mitzi, assets from her estate were added to the fund in the fall of 2019. The purpose of the fund is to support the early careers of emerging professional pianists through performance opportunities at Colburn and beyond, and by providing unrestricted annual awards––bridge grants that help young artists launch careers as professional musicians. An anonymous selection committee considered candidates early spring of 2020, and after conversation and deliberation unanimously agreed to award four Amron-Sutherland grants to recent graduates of the Conservatory of Music.
