The LA community is invited to explore, be curious, pop in, and choose their own adventures at more than 15 participating cultural institutions along Grand Avenue, who will open their doors to visitors of all ages for a day of free workshops, performances, tours, and interactive events. Explore art, music, dance, literature, and more! 

Stop by Colburn’s Plaza for fun family activities, then visit our friends on Grand Avenue. All events are free and open to the public, rain or shine.

Colburn’s activities include:

  • Instrument Petting Zoo, 11 am to 4 pm.  Try an instrument of your choice and get expert advice on getting started in music.
  • Open Sing, 11 am. Colburn’s Choir Director Adrian Dunn leads an open sing workshop for vocalists of all ages.
  • Conduct Us, 12 noon: Try your hand at conducting a band! Eleanor Núñez, Director of Bands and Orchestra for Colburn’s Community School of Performing Arts, will lead you through the steps. Open to all ages and no experience necessary—just bring yourself, and we’ll provide the baton.
  • Student performances, 11:30 am, 11:45 am, 1 pm, 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm, and 3:30 pm. Enjoy piano, cello, and violin performances throughout the day, as talented young students from the Community School of Performing Arts, Colburn Music Academy, and Colburn Conservatory of Music take to the stage on the Colburn Plaza.
  • Open Ballet Class, 2:15 pm and 2:45 pm. Get moving alongside students and faculty from Colburn’s Trudl Zipper Dance Institute.
  • Tap Student Showcase, 2 pm and 3 pm. Get your daily dose of inspiration from the rhythm and joy of Tap, as Colburn’s talented student tappers perform on the Plaza.
  • Colburn Concert Choir, 3:45 pm. Colburn’s most advanced choral ensemble takes over the Colburn Plaza for a vibrant performance!
