Our first Chamber Series concert of the 2025/26 Season brings everything audiences love about LACO to life: extraordinary artistry, emotional depth, and the thrill of hearing world-class musicians up close.It’s remarkably rare to experience both of Brahms’ radiant sextets on a single program. Together, they trace the composer’s own evolution—his growth, vulnerability, and transformation captured in sound. Sextet No. 1, written in his late twenties, shimmers with youthful optimism and daring invention, while Sextet No. 2 unveils a more introspective voice, rich with emotion and self-discovery.

Travel across the centuries in this program of vibrant chamber works rooted in the rich Austro-Hungarian musical tradition. First, Haydn’s “Quinten” string quartet masterfully darts from major to minor as each movement transforms and embellishes the central theme. The winds then take center stage for Ligeti’s whimsical Six Bagatelles, a piece saturated with Hungarian folk melodies, before a violin, cello, and piano close out the concert with Brahms’s energetic and playful Trio No. 2. This end-of-semester School Recital series showcases talented instrumentalists and vocalists from the Community School of Performing Arts.
The Community School’s Concert Band and Wind Ensemble—led by Eleanor Núñez, Rafael and Luisa DMH Foundation Director of Bands, Colburn Youth Sinfonietta and Colburn Youth Orchestra Director, and Conducting Instructor—perform thrilling works for brass, winds, and percussion.
Led by renowned German conductor Kevin John Edusei, the Colburn Orchestra returns to The Wallis with a lavish program spotlighting the rich cultural heritages of its composers. The concert opens with Ernest Bloch’s Jewish-inspired masterpiece Schelomo, an intense and poignant rhapsody that casts the cello as King Solomon and the orchestra as a world full of temptation. Bedřich Smetana’s Má vlast ("My Country") then invites the audience on a journey through Bohemia’s countryside and lore in a rousing, atmospheric love letter to his Czech homeland.

Led by Adrian Dunn, the Community School’s choral program presents SING JOY!, a joyful celebration of music, community, and the season. Join the Colburn Children’s Choir, Youth Chorus, and Concert Choir for an evening that’s filled with hope, light, and togetherness. This performance will be livestreamed. This event is now sold out. This colorful program highlighting a variety of music styles features the work of two influential French composers. César Franck’s expressive and fiery piano quintet will be performed alongside Claude Debussy’s only string quartet, an avant-garde tapestry of textures. Special guest Blake Pouliot joins Colburn students for both works. Rounding out the program is a fugal masterwork by Mozart showcasing the bass and an innovative contemporary work by Tōru Takemitsu that blends Eastern and Western sounds.
