Movement is the central theme for this exhilarating concert of programmatic works. Turina’s vivid Danzas fantásticas takes listeners on a tour of Spain using Spanish dance melodies. The sensual “Dance of the Seven Veils” from Strauss’s opera Salome depicts the protagonist dancing into madness, while Ravel’s Suite No. 2 illustrates the happy ending from his ballet Daphnis et Chloé. Rounding out this energetic program is the dance-like drive and infectious rhythms of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3.
