Colburn’s history is filled with show-stopping performances and exclusive parties with like-minded individuals who support Colburn’s education and on-stage activities and provide access to the best performing arts training regardless of a student’s ability to pay.
The Celebrate Colburn Gala is a wonderful tribute to the power of the performing arts. More importantly, it raises vital funds for the school so that we can continue to offer a transformational music and dance education to our students.
Our Space & Sound programs include live performances with Colburn artists in remarkable architectural spaces. Architects, acousticians, and cultural luminaries come together for lively and educational conversations with performers and special guests.
We invite you to take a moment to peruse the exciting and special events we have lined up this year.

Contemporary Residence, Malibu
Nestled directly on the beach off Pacific Coast Highway, this modern masterpiece was designed as a serene home away from home for an LA family, seamlessly blending the tranquility of the ocean with the artistry of contemporary design. With clean lines and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, the space invites breathtaking ocean views and spectacular sunsets, while the striking geometric skylights add a touch of modern elegance. Enjoy gazing at the ocean, marveling at the architectural details, conversing with the architect, Ed Niles, and reveling in the performances by talented Colburn musicians, each piece thoughtfully curated to complement the stunning surroundings.

We were thrilled to welcome our community on Sunday, April 7th, for the annual Celebrate Colburn Gala. It was a privilege to honor our Civic Honoree, Merle Mullin, and our Artistic Honoree, James Conlon, alongside our exceptionally talented Colburn student artists. Your attendance and generous support during this memorable event continue to uphold our tradition of offering essential access and scholarships for outstanding performing arts education to students from Los Angeles and beyond.
Ziering Residence, Pacific Palisades
Perched on the coastal cliffs, overlooking the Pacific Ocean with the Santa Monica mountains in the background, the Ziering Residence was an exceptional afternoon with music and dance performances by Colburn artists that redefined how we experience sound. The curved house and interaction of unique characteristics of concrete, glass, and warm wooden textures offered a one-of-a-kind and immersive auditory journey through an open minimalistic floor plan with a blend of indoor and outdoor spaces.
The Celebrate Colburn Gala marks each year with spectacular performance, delectable hospitality, and joyful comradery among patrons, artists, and students. Please join us for this festive evening, during which we are proud to honor Austin Beutner for his work to enhance arts education for children and Stéphane Denève for his special dedication to the next generation of performing artists. This year’s annual Celebrate Colburn Gala will feature the Colburn Orchestra performing in the Walt Disney Concert Hall and a celebration on our beloved campus.
This exclusive event allowed attendees to enjoy a lovely afternoon at the stunning residence of Erin David. David’s midcentury modern home was designed by the late architect, John Kelsey, who left a sizable thumbprint on southern California through his design of the curvilinear Norton Simon Museum as well as many other residences and noteworthy commercial buildings
Enjoy a holiday party on the Colburn campus, your home away from home. This festive program of dance and music will support the dance programs you love. Be the first to see brand new choreography by Dean Silas Farley and Colburn faculty members, watch Colburn students from all dance programs perform in Zipper Hall, and mingle with artists, faculty, and families. Keep an eye out for your invitation this fall. A performance-only repeat of Joy! will take place on Sunday, December 18.
Spend the afternoon with the Colburn School for a special event in honor of Marilyn Ziering, longstanding supporter of the Ziering-Conlon Initiative for Recovered Voices. This fundraiser will highlight the brief history of Recovered Voices projects and will include a stimulating conversation between Maestro James Conlon and guests about how these composers are emblematic of what this initiative has accomplished and what we hope to accomplish in the future.
